Where to Stay in Amsterdam: The Best Hotels in Amsterdam for 2022
Not long ago, I wouldn’t have recommended hotels to anyone planning a visit in Amsterdam. Because hotels here used to be overpriced and tiny, and options were limited, Airbnb was my accommodation of choice when staying in Amsterdam. Now, regulations on Airbnb rentals have limited availability of short-term rental apartments and the prices have skyrocketed. Thankfully, the competition brought forth from Airbnb changed the market and forced local hotels to up their game.
After numerous mishaps with Airbnb rentals, including trashed apartments and being forced to leave in the middle of the night because the listing is illegal, I’ve come to a place of loving the luxury of staying in a hotel (as long as it’s clean and comfy). Many hotels in Amsterdam were renovated, making them more appealing. They now offer increased amenities and more value for your money. With all the options in Amsterdam, there is a hotel to cater to every taste and style.
De L’Europe Amsterdam
It’s hard to find such an expansive hotel in the city, but the Hotel De L’Europe is a five-star luxury resort in the heart of Amsterdam that comes highly recommended by travelers and locals.
The Dylan
Located on one of Amsterdam’s most picturesque canals, the Keizersgracht, this super-sophisticated hotel is a design-lover’s dream. Its comfortable bed, beautiful décor, convenient location, and excellent service make The Dylan a perfect splurge.
The W Amsterdam
The W is one of Amsterdam’s hippest hotels, and with its incredible rooftop pool lounge. It has quickly become an icon on Instagram. The hotel is split between two buildings, the Bank and the Exchange, which give guests the opportunity to experience two different vibes. If you want luxury, quality sleep, incredible on-site restaurants, and photo-worthy spaces – this is your city retreat.
Pulitzer Amsterdam
This luxury hotel is located in the Jordaan district (which is walking distance from the Anne Frank House) and boasts some of the city’s finest rooms. Suites at the Pulitzer have their own themes, including ones that feature the dreamiest canal-facing bathtubs in Amsterdam.
Kimpton De Witt
Conveniently located near Amsterdam Centraal Station, the Kimpton De Witt is one of the coolest hotels in the city. The hotel also offers a ton of incredible amenities, such as free bike rentals and a happy hour, where wine flows freely. Rooms are elegantly decorated and each one is unique. Before calling it a night and heading to your cozy bed, stop by Super Lyan, the property’s incredible cocktail bar, for a signature drink.
Hotel the Craftsmen
Situated in a landmark canal-facing property, this boutique hotel is fully-restored and features bespoke designs. Even the smallest rooms at Hotel the Craftsmen have water views, so everyone gets a view. Due to the limited amount of rooms available here, it’s recommended to book early.
NH Collection Barbizon Palace
Whether I’ve been flying for 15 hours or one, my top priority when I land is ditching my luggage. Staying here makes that super easy because it’s located almost directly outside of the city’s main train station, Amsterdam Centraal.
Die Port van Cleve
Die Port van Cleve, where you are surrounded by history, is one of Amsterdam’s most unique and historic hotels. The building was part of the De Hooiberg brewery complex, which was in operation beginning in 1592 until it was bought out by Heineken in 1863. Here, the rooms are adorable and the staff is accommodating.
Hotel CC
This contemporary boutique hotel is constructed in three historic canal houses (some are leaning) and is steps away from museums, dining, and shopping. Rooms here are small, but clean and comfy, and provide extraordinary views of the water or of the buzzing of busy street Warmoestraat.
Cityden Apartments Museum Quarter
Cityden Apartments are the perfect alternative to an Airbnb, but without the hassle of hunting down your host. These apartments are particularly great because they offer the amenities of a hotel (yay clean towels!), but all the comforts of a home.
St. Christopher’s Inn at The Winston
No room is the same in this award-winning art hostel located in Amsterdam’s Red Light District because a local artist has painted each room. The amenities are modern and the staff is friendly.
Flying Pig Hostel, Uptown
This Amsterdam hostel is located in the heart of the party, situated in the heart of Amsterdam’s city center – and all the coffeeshops.
