Park Hyatt Zanzibar, Tanzania

Zanzibar offers an abundance of unique and exciting accommodations to choose from. Some are located in the heart of historical Stone Town while others are located on dreamy beaches or even on remote islands of the archipelago. The Park Hyatt Zanzibar offers visitors a bit of both – it’s the best hotel for those looking for beach access while being in a central, walkable location.

Plus, it’s a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Location

Located on the outskirts of Stone Town, the Park Hyatt Zanzibar is located a short fifteen minutes car ride from the airport. We adored being walking distance from all of the town’s restaurants, shops, and nightlife.

The Hotel

The Park Hyatt Zanzibar is built around a UNESCO World Heritage Site – it’s absolutely stunning. The hotel features 67 guest rooms, a main pool that overlooks the beach, multiple restaurants, bars and a shop.

The Food and Drink

There are three restaurant venues at the hotel. My husband and I were positively surprised by the selection and flavors that the hotel offered. We especially loved the local curries and unique cocktails served in relaxed atmospheres.

Dining Room

The hotel’s largest restaurant, Dining Room, is opened daily for a breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the options changing daily.

We were blown away by the breakfast with egg and pancake stations, a robust locally sourced selection (including the best rice ever), and a fresh juice bar. We highly recommend getting breakfast included with your room price – it’s worth it!

Living Room

This casual lounge features vibrant colors and is the perfect place for an escape from the intense mid-day sun or for a pre-dinner drink.

The Library and Veranda

This restaurant is located in the main veranda area, set back from the beach with incredible lighting for a pleasant atmosphere.

The Room: Park Deluxe King Ocean View

We stayed in a wonderfully decorated, 50m² room with a massive king bed, ocean views, and a private balcony overlooking the beach to enjoy Zanzibar’s vibrant sunsets. All of the rooms at the Park Hyatt Zanzibar are impeccably designed and feature sustainable products.

Our room, number 2032, was beyond expectations and is a place I teleport myself back to frequently. The room was spacious and the décor was perfectly appointed.

Double doors led to an amazing indoor bathroom, complete with a large soak tub that offers ocean views. The lux bathroom details, sustainable products, and the fact that you’ve got perfect views of the ocean from the bathtub are among the reasons we chose this room.

Activities

The hotel is located directly in Stone Town, so there are tons of restaurants and shops nearby. If you’re looking for a fun day trip, ask the staff to book an excursion to Prison Island to admire the giant tortoises.

For the best snorkeling, we suggest making a trip to the other side of the island where the reef is more abundant and there is less boat traffic.

Overall

The Park Hyatt Zanzibar offers all aspects that make a vacation in this island so special: Perfect paradise beaches, incredible architecture boasting UNESCO-protected history, and detailed rooms. No matter if you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family – you’re going to have the best time. The staff at the Park Hyatt Zanzibar are spectacular and do everything possible to make your stay memorable.

What We Loved

  • Due to its proximity to Stone Town, the Park Hyatt Zanzibar is a quick walk from the center – allowing for plenty of different dining options. Being able to explore the streets of Stone Town is something every visitor to Zanzibar should do.
  • The Park Hyatt’s service is impeccable, friendly, and quick.
  • The rooms are stunning, spacious, and feature luxurious, sustainable products and minibar offerings.
  • Food at the hotel was delicious – I still think about dining on local curry while listening to waves and the “chicken tenders” served up while baking in the sun at the pool.

What You Should Know

  • The hotel is located on a public beach. We absolutely loved this and watching the locals at sundown (but we are aware that other guests have disliked the public beach due to the lack of privacy).
  • At the pool area, there is an extremely limited number of sun beds – so it can be frustrating when you aren’t able to lounge.
