Haunted Travels: Spooky Places Around the World

There are countless creepy places around the globe, each with its own interesting story. If you, like me, enjoy a good ghost story, make sure to add these mysterious destinations to your list:

Buzludzha
Situated in the rural hills of Bulgaria, this abandoned communist-era monument looks like a UFO and is rumored to be haunted. Getting there is an adventure of its own because the monument is not accessible by public transport and the structure Buzludzha is in a derelict condition.

Catacombs of Paris
Located twenty meters underground, the Catacombs of Paris is an ossuary housing the remains of many ancient Parisiens. The site houses the bones of over 6 million people.

Pripyat, Ukraine
Pripyat was abandoned after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986. Since then, the town has been taken back by nature and is incredibly eerie.

Whaley House, California, USA
Built in the mid-1800s, the Whaley House is a historic site that’s said to be haunted by some family members and people who were hung on the property. I’d recommend visiting this haunted mansion for an extra special midnight tour and ghost hunt.

Crumlin Road Gaol, Northern Ireland
In service for over 150 years, this creepy prison has housed countless inmates – some of which were publicly hung and then buried within the prison’s walls.

Sedlac Ossuary, Czech Republic
The Sedlac Ossuary, otherwise known as the Bone Church, is located in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic. This popular tourist attraction features the bones of 40,000 people arranged in a decorative manner.

Dracula’s Castle, Romania
Bran Castle, or “Dracula’s Castle”, is a national monument in the Transylvania region of Romania. Its spooky connection to vampires makes it a must-see for those who enjoy the stories.

Frankenstein Castle, Germany
Often speculated as the inspiration for the Mary Shelley book, this unique castle ruin overlooks the city of Darmstadt offering visitors incredible panoramic views. Each year they host a legendary halloween party on the castle grounds.

Edinburgh Vaults, Scotland
Located beneath the streets of Edinburgh, the Edinburgh vaults once housed merchants, bars, and storage spaces. However, criminal activity took over and the vaults are said to be rumored to be haunted by murder victims.

Stone Town, Tanzania
Located on the island of Zanzibar, Stone Town has a ghostly past. An evening tour of UNESCO protected Stone Town will take you past the city’s haunted sites, such as the Old Fort, the House of Wonders and Victoria Garden.

Obvodny Canal, St. Petersburg, Russia
The Obvodny Canal runs through the center of St. Petersburg. To locals, the canal is also known as the “Suicide Canal” due to numerous tragic events that have happened since its construction in the mid-18th century.
