Phuket

Phuket is an island that offers the best and the worst that Thailand has to offer. The island has beautiful white sandy beaches and pristine wildlife, yet it also has the overdeveloped Patong Beach and sex tourism. Phuket is the largest travel destination for most tourists to Thailand, so if you really want to enjoy the beauty of the island, stay far away from the main areas.

Where to Stay
If you are looking for a tourist area with shops and hawkers and an abundance of bars, stay in the Patong Beach area of Phuket. If you are looking for a little bit more relaxation, avoid that area. Lodging on the island of Phuket starts at 200 THB depending on the location of the accommodation and season.

Things To Do

  • Phuket Town
In addition to the high-rise hotels and bikinis, Phuket Town also offers tourists a glimpse of the past. Gorgeous Sino-Portuguese architecture mixed with Chinese influences creates beautiful photographs for the professional or amateur photographer. Phuket Town is a calming place to stay on the island and is less packed with tourists.
  • Muay Thai
Phuket is the epicenter for the famous Muay Thai fighting. Whether you go to a day camp and learn some techniques yourself or you go to watch a fight, it is a popular tradition among Thai people.
  • Big Buddha
Standing atop Nakkerd Hills in Southern Phuket, this newer addition to the island is 45 meters tall and is a free attraction. It is a religious site, so avoid beach clothing when visiting. This location is great for viewing a beautiful Thailand sunset, so be sure to arrive sometime around 18:30 for a spectacular view. Opening hours for this attraction are from 8:00-19:30.
  • Day Trip To James Bond Island
Phang Nga Bay is unique and beautiful, featuring limestone cliffs and shallow emerald green waters. It is no wonder the famous James Bond film ‘The Man with the Golden Gun' was shot here.
