Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan has some of the most beautiful beach areas in Thailand, but it is most famous for being host to the Full Moon Party. It is located off of Koh Samui and is easily accessible via daily ferries.

Where To Stay
If you are visiting the island for the infamous Full Moon Party and you would like to partake in the festivities, stay as central to the Haat Rin area as you can. If you are not visiting the island for the Full Moon Party, stay in the northern area of the island to avoid the chaos. If you are visiting the island not during a full moon cycle, Koh Phangan is quiet and choosing accommodations should not be difficult or expensive.

Things To Do

  • Full Moon Party
This infamous party on the beach features buckets of alcohol, neon paint and loud music. Every bar on the beach has its own sound system so there are many different types of music playing throughout the evening. Fire dancers perform and sometimes challenge each other. This rave happens every month during the full moon. If your timeframe doesn’t allow you to attend a Full Moon Party, don’t worry – there is a Half Moon Party as well. Truthfully speaking, every day is a party on this island. I didn’t happen to be here during a Full Moon Party, but I still partied on the beach. I had such a wild and wonderful evening that I lost a toe-nail! Oops!
  • Snorkeling
Snorkeling trips are sold all over the island, and there are a variety of options available. This is a great way to make new friends and to see the serene wildlife and other areas of the island.
  • Hike to Waterfalls
Koh Phangan has gorgeous waterfalls and seeing them is a great escape from the bars. Please note that some of these waterfalls are seasonal and may not have running water during the dry season.
