Puerta del Sol is a central location in Madrid, and often lodging here isn’t any more expensive than other places of the city. From here, you can reach any area of the city via public transportation, but most of the main sites are within walking distance. The weather is beautiful in Madrid year-round, which makes walking around delightful.

 

What To Do

  • Palacio Real
    The Royal Palace is the official residence of Madrid’s monarchy, but the palace is only used for formal state ceremonies. The palace is the largest building in Madrid. Opening hours are from 09:00-18:00 during the summer and 09:30-170:00 during the winter. Entrance is free of charge with the Madrid Card.
  • Plaza Mayor
    Located near Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor is a large, colorful square that was constructed in 1617. There are many interesting local shops and enticing restaurants along Plaza Mayor.

  • Puerta del Sol
    Located at the center of a network of roads and alleys, Puerta del Sol is Madrid’s busiest location.
  • Museo del Prado
    Home to one of Europe’s greatest art collections, the Musem del Prado features artwork from Picasso, Gaudi, Bosch and many more famous artists. Avoid a long queue and purchase your tickets in advance online via the Prado’s website.
  • Palacio de Cibeles
    An icon of Madrid, this beautiful palace is located on the Plaza de Cibeles. The palace is open Tuesday – Sunday from 10:00 – 20:00. Entrance fees vary.
  • Mercado San Miguel
    This large market is located in old Madrid. Vendors sell all sorts of items – from food to textiles.
