Russia Winter Palace Entrance

Located on the Baltic Sea, Saint Petersburg is Russia’s endlessly beautiful port city. Founded by Peter the Great in 1703, this city served as the country’s imperial capital for over two centuries. Today, Saint Petersburg remains the cultural center of Russia with tons of museums, collections of important art, iconic architecture and world-renowned theatre and ballet. This city is a must-see to anyone visiting Russia.

Where To Stay
Nevsky Prospekt is a busy (and entertaining) street that is centrally located in Saint Petersburg. From this street, you can walk to many attractions, shops, and restaurants or easily access public transportation to other parts of this spread-out city. Stay nearby Nevsky Prospekt for the ultimate Saint Petersburg experience.

What To Do

  • Church of the Savior on Blood
This massive, ornate and spectacular church with colorful onion domes is a must-do while visiting Saint Petersburg. It is definitely one of the most beautiful churches I have seen.

  • Winter Palace
From the 1700s until the 1900s, this gorgeous structure served as the official residence of Russian czars. Today, it serves as the location for the Hermitage Museum.

  • Smolny Convent
Designed by Rastrelli, the famed Italian architect who also designed the Winter Palace, this colorful baroque-style complex is an architectural masterpiece of the 18th century.

  • Nevsky Prospekt
Nevsky Prospekt is the main street that runs through Saint Petersburg. Located on this street are endless numbers of places to shop and dine. Located off this street is the popular Palace Square. Also, my personal favorite local restaurant in the area, Dachniki, is located on this street.
  • Russian Vodka Museum
This small exhibit, showing the fascinating history of vodka, includes tools used for preparing, producing and distributing vodka, and best of all – samples of vodka are included. Open Tuesday-Sunday from 11-21:00.
  • Peter and Paul Fortress
Founded by Peter the Great, Peter and Paul Fortress is the original citadel of the city. Construction on the citadel started in 1706. Open daily, except Wednesdays, from 10-16:00.

  • Saint Petersburg Metro
Although not as remarkable as Moscow’s elaborate metro stations, Saint Petersburg’s metro is historic and beautiful. Take a ride on the metro and check out each station – they’re all different and they’re all photogenic.
