Albufeira

Located on Portugal's southern coast, Albufeira is definitely a touristy beach destination. Located approximately thirty minutes west of the Algarve region's major airport in Faro, most travelers immediately take a shuttle or Uber into Albufeira. It's a small beach town and it somewhat resembles areas of Greece with its white cliffside houses. While I wasn't fond of Albufeira because of the abundance of loud families, super-kitschy neon lights, and bland food, the area was bustling and as busy as ever.

Where To Stay
When visiting Albufeira, stay close to the Old Town area. Old town is where all of the activities, restaurants, bars, and sights are located. Staying far away from Old Town could end up being pricey since there isn’t any reliable transportation in the area except for taxis and tuk-tuks. It’s smart to book in advance during the summer months because Albufeira is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

Things To Do

  • Centro Historico (Old Town)
Albufeira’s old town is lined with cobblestoned streets, white houses, shops, restaurants, and what seems like an endless number of bars. This is where all the action happens.

  • Beaches
Praia Azul, Praia dos Pescadores, Praia de Coelha – there are a bunch of beaches in the small Albufeira area, but one is not much different than the next. Each beach features tan sand, seashells, umbrellas and chairs to rent, locals selling doughnuts, and tourists.
