Rimini

 

Located in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy on the Adriatic Sea, Rimini is an ancient beach-side retreat with a lot of character. Rimini was founded by the Romans in 268 BC and has played an important part in Italian history since. Rimini’s location on the sea made it an important place of trade and communication. During the 19th century revolution, Rimini actively city hosted many important events aimed at the unification of Italy. In World War II, Rimini earned a gold medal for civic value for its fierce partisan resistance. Today, it’s Italy’s most important site for conferences.

What To Do

  • Museo Civico
    Located in an old convent, the Museo Civico displays a vast array of artifacts and information regarding Rimini and the surrounding area. It’s also known as the Museo della Città di Rimini.
  • Castel Sismondo
    Lord Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta of Rimini built this castle in 1437. The Malatestas were a very powerful family during this time period. Castel Sismondo was originally surrounded by a moat, but today, only the central parts of its structure remain.
  • Tempio Malatestiano
    This Romanesque church was consecrated in 800, but remains partially unfinished to date. The dome, which was intended to be the largest in Italy, was never built.
  • Hit the Beach
    Rimini’s white sand beaches are perfect for a day of relaxation and fun in the sun.
