Milan

Milan is Italy's fashion destination. Milan’s fashion influence can be seen all over the world. Milan is also Italy’s financial capital, which gives it a very cosmopolitan appeal and interesting cultural appeal. Some visitors complain that Milan lacks the charm and immense beauty of other Italian cities, but the great sights, food, and shopping in Milan delights some visitors.

Where To Stay
Milan is centered around the city’s main square, the Piazza del Duomo. If you want to walk to many of the main attractions in Milan, staying around this area is the best option. If you’re traveling on a budget, staying further away from the center will save big bucks. Milan’s public transportation system is well connected, fast, affordable, and easy to use. It’s a great way to venture around the city for travelers staying away from the center.

What To Do

  • Duomo
This magnificent building is the icon of Milan. Its pointed steeples and intricate stonework dominate the piazza. Milan’s Duomo is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. It was commissioned in 1386 and took nearly 600 years to complete.  A picture in front of this masterpiece is a must, as is a climb to the top (for a fee) for incredible views of the city. It’s truly a sight to be seen.

  • The Last Supper
Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece mural “The Last Supper” is in the Cenacolo Vinciano. It’s Milan’s biggest tourist attraction and to see it you need to book ahead or take a tour.
  • Teatro alla Scala
Milan’s legendary opera house. Take a peek inside if there aren’t any performances or practices scheduled!

  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele
Leading from Piazza del Duomo to Milan’s opera house, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is the place to shop. It’s one of the most beautiful “malls” I’ve ever seen.

  • Shopping
I wouldn’t call Milan a destination for bargain shoppers (although some small boutiques will have amazing sales). Big-name designer brands are what you’ll find gracing the windows of this fashion capital.
