Hotel Review: Ameron Neuschwanstein Alpsee Resort and Spa

Ameron Neuschwanstein Alpsee Resort and Spa is a unique hotel in the heart of the Bavarian Alps, surrounded by mountains and near the region’s famous castles.
The Hotel
Ameron Neuschwanstein Alpsee Resort and Spa is located in Schwangau, within walking distance of the charming town and its castles.
The hotel has 136 rooms, each with a unique design and layout. They are located in three main modern buildings and three smaller historic buildings. The rooms in the new buildings are contemporary, while those in the historical buildings are traditional.

One of the hotel’s historical buildings, the Alpenrose.
The hotel has three onsite restaurants, a sprawling spa with an indoor pool, and stunning castle views from many angles.

The staircase’s window had incredible views of the region.

Dressed up for a wedding, even the Jägerhaus’ staircase made me feel regal.
Arrival
Guests are welcomed to the hotel in a vast, open-space lobby with beautiful views of Hohenschwangau Castle.
The designated check-in time for guests is 3 p.m. We arrived slightly before check-in and were lucky to have our room ready for us. Check-in was efficient, but the experience could have been more memorable. The hotel’s front desk is open 24 hours a day.

The hotel’s open lobby had floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the incredible views.

Views for days.
Room Booked: Traditional Double Room, Jägerhaus
We were assigned room number 53, across from the main building in one of the historic buildings, the Jägerhaus. The Jägerhaus is the property’s smallest building, with only 11 rooms, but it is quite possibly the one with the most character. Despite booking the most affordable room category available when we booked, the Traditional Room was surprisingly spacious. Our room had postcard-worthy views of Hohenschwangau Castle – we’d book the exact room again just for this.

The hallway room light features the number.

The hotel still uses traditional keys for rooms in the Jägerhaus.
The room featured a separate seating area, a bedroom, and a bathroom directly off the bedroom. As with most hotels in Germany, the bed had two separate duvets. The minibar had complimentary bottled water and a coffee machine.

The bed had two duvets, typical in German hotels.

The room’s décor was bold, but traditional.

We were delighted with how much space the room category featured.

Room service replenished the water and coffee daily.
The traditional room category in the Jägerhaus had a bathtub and a separate shower.

As a bird lover, I adored the bathroom’s details.
The Food and Drink
The hotel has three onsite restaurants and Ludwig bar, a great place to get craft cocktails. For the most laid-back and authentic Biergarten vibe, Schloss Bräustüberl is the restaurant for you. Guests who want to enjoy views of the Alpsee and sit outside should visit Alpenrose Café. Lisl Restaurant, in the hotel's historic building, is fine dining, and reservations are required.

No trip to Bavaria is complete without a beer.

Schnitzels are a fan favorite (mine too).

Overall
The Ameron Neuschwanstein Alpsee Hotel’s location cannot be beaten—it’s the prime spot to be when visiting this region of Bavaria. Although the specific room category we booked was the hotel’s most affordable option, we were pleasantly pleased with the size of the accommodation.
