Enchanting Eastern Europe

Eastern Europe, the most overlooked and underrated area in Europe (yet my favorite section of the continent), is filled with unique culture, ancient history and architecture, tons of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, hospitable locals, and tasty cuisine. Travelers can visit Eastern Europe for a fraction of the cost incurred when visiting its neighbors to the west.

There's a lot to enjoy in Eastern Europe! Here are some of my favorite highlights from this affordable under-appreciated, but spectacular and interesting region.

Ukraine
Large, undiscovered, underrated, and mind-blowingly gorgeous, Ukraine is one of Europe’s hidden beauties. A nation burdened with poverty, it is rich with centuries-old tradition, lively locals, and memorable experiences. My trip to Ukraine ranks on the top of my list. I can't wait to go back and explore more.

The architecture of Serbia is simply charming and colorful. Cover Photo: The Belgrade Fortress, located in Serbia's capital city.

Serbia
Serbia – the surprising party capital of Europe. I mean it – the nightlife here is incomparable to anywhere else in Europe. Streets become alive in the nighttime with locals venturing out for a bite to eat and some socializing over a cold beer. Floating nightclubs and hip cocktail bars in Belgrade stay open until dawn. On the historical side, Serbia offers tons of history too.

Stari Most, or “Old Bridge,” in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Cascading rivers, lush mountain ranges, breath-taking waterfalls, medieval castles, strong coffee, and super-friendly locals are what Bosnia and Herzegovina is all about. You don’t get landscape like this elsewhere in Europe. This country is also one of the best bargains on the continent.

Riga's House of the Blackheads is a work of art.

Latvia
This underrated Baltic country is one of the best-kept bargain secrets in the Schengen zone. Latvia's capital city, Riga, has a gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage historical center and a bustling local pub scene.

Lithuania
Lithuania, another under-appreciated Baltic country, offers a bit of everything to visitors. From sandy coasts to a lush mountainous interior to metropolitan cities to ancient villages, Lithuania is full of delights. Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital perfectly blends the 21st century marvels with the beauty of past times.
