Getting There And Around
The majority of international visitors arrive to France via one of Paris’s two airports, Charles de Gaulle or Orly. Americans, Australians, Canadians, EU members, and New Zealanders are not required to obtain a visa before entering France. France is a Schengen member, so tourists are not permitted to stay in the country, or the Schengen territory, for longer than 90 days.
Paris is one of Europe’s main train terminals. Traveling to and from Paris is easy, and often inexpensive. Train travel within and outside of France is comfortable, efficient and picturesque.
Bus companies have cheap tickets available for transportation within France and also internationally. The highway systems are well developed and maintained, making the journey pleasant. Although traveling via bus takes longer, it is the best option for travelers on a strict budget.
Public transportation in France’s larger cities, such as Paris and Lyon, offers extensive coverage making inter-city travel a breeze. Smaller cities and towns are easily navigated on foot, which is also a great way to interact with the locals.

Food
French cuisine is among the most decadent in the world. So decadent, in fact, that UNESCO added French gastronomy to its list of the world’s cultural heritage. Cheeses and wines are major players in French cuisine and are frequently used when preparing dishes. Don’t leave France without trying some favorites, such as a fresh-baked baguette, French onion soup, tourin, coq au vin (chicken stew), salade niçois, ratatouille (vegetable dish), or a colorful maracon (French pastry).

Shop at the local markets. Bottles of wine can be as cheap as 2 EUR (and still tasty)! The markets also offer delicious deli sandwiches, so purchasing lunch at a market can help you save money.
During the less busy winter months, some museums offer free entry on the first Sunday of every month. It is a great way to save some serious cash and to still see important art and history.
